Sunshine Monologue 15

Celebrate Good Times...COME ON! (Part One)

Well today is the day of the crab boil out Janet's House. I am looking forward to this. About 60 people are coming and we should have a good ass time. My contribution is my Macaroni & Spicy Chicken Salad. The bowl you see is quite deep so it should be enough for everyone to get a swallow. I was going to go out last nite, but decided to stay at home. I got up early however and put together my stuff and gathered up my bag for my overnight stay and I'll be heading out to have fun with friends and surrogate family.....(stay tuned for other parts as this story unwinds)

Get Your Drink On!

Drinking is a favorite pasttime of ours and nothing speaks to a good get together whether it's 2 or 200 than good spirits. We gave up drinking 'common' party fare years ago and this year is no exception. I'd like to share some of our list of 'summer 2005 drinks' that we will be trying - enjoy!

Strawberry Mint Sangria
2 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
1 1/2 ounces brandy
1 bottle dry white wine, chilled
12 ounces club soda, chilled

In a large glass pitcher, combine the strawberries, mint leaves, and brandy. Slowly pour into he wine, then refrigerate for two hours. When ready to serve, add the club soda and stir gently with a long wooden spoon. Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish each glass with a mint sprig.

Bartlett Pear Sangria
2 diced Bartlett pears
10 lemon wheels
1 bottle pinot grigio
1 cup triple sec
1 cup brandy
ginger ale

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Let it sit for at least four hours. When serving, ladle the sangria into an ice-filled glass and top with ginger ale. Garnish with a sprig of mint or rosemary.

Sake Julep
Mint leaf
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 ripe diced peach
1 1/2 ounce vodka
1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
tonic

Place mint and sugar in a cocktail shaker; muddle. Add peach; muddle again. Pour in Sake; shake. Add vodka, lime juice and ice; shake again. Strain over ice: top with tonic Toss in extra pieces of peach.

Pineapple Flirtini
1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. triple sec liqueur
1 ox. pineapplejuice
2 pieces of fresh pineapple
3 ox. champagne

Muddle the pineapple piece and the trip sec in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add vodka and juice and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled Martini glass. Top with Champagne. Garnish with a cherry

Wild Berry Mojito
1-1/2 ox. Bacardi Light Rum
3-4 each of fresh blackberries, blueberries and red raspberries
8-12 fresh mint leaves
juiceof one lime
1 oz. simple syrup
soda water
mint sprig for garnish

In a 12-oz. hiball glass, muddle mint, simple syrup, wild berries and lime juice. Fill a glass with crushed ice - it is very important to use crushed ice, not cubed - then add rum. Stir well until the ice is reduced by 1/2 then top with more crushed ice, stirring until the glass begins to frost on the outside. Spritz with soda water and stir on last time to incorporate.

Berry Lemonade Slush (non-alcoholic)
1/2 cup country time lemonade flavor drink mix
1/2 cup water
3 cups ice cubes
1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries

Measure drink mix into cap to 1 qt line (1/2 cup) empty into blender container. Add remaining ingredients; cover. Blend on high speed. Turn off blender. Stir with spoon; cover. Blend an additional 5 sec or until smooth using pulsing action. Serve immediately.

The BS Bag

I was rambling thru some folders the other day and came across a gag bag I had bought many years ago - - the BS bag. Man what a find! This will be a new feature on my blog and it will be ongoing - a quick way to get some rants, both personal and beyond me off my chest - just dump them in the BS bag. So for my first installment here's what's going in the bag (it may fill up early, glad I have extras):

Well certainly there will be more..........
